Dusk

Dusk wondered out the town. He rarely did that, but today was speicial. He wanted to go out to the waterfall. His favorite spot. It was special to him so he didn't come here often. He knew that if he came here all the time, it wouldn't be speicial.

Dusk had no home, no family. He lived in an alley behind a bar. The only person he was a little close to was the bartender, Frank. He actually gave him food and advise and was a very good role model. Sometimes Dusk would find a little money and Frank would give him some sweets.

Dusk didn't know things. There were many things about himself he didn't know, but there was on the he did. He stood by the pond and softly sang to himself.

"Happy birthday to me, happy birthday..."

Today was his birthday. He was now 12 years old. The one thing he knew about himself. He always made sure to remember it.

Icarus quietly walked along the path, looking at the forest and the scenery. After a few minutes of walking, he heard the sound of water falling down. Icarus wondered what was in there and started walking towards it.

He saw a beautiful waterfall and a pond next to it. At the edge of the pound there was a fox cub standing by it and he seemed to sing something...happy birthday? He was alone in his birthday? Icarus walked to him and, trying not to scare him, said, "Hey! What are you doing here all alone?".

Didn't hear the person come up. By the time he was done with the song, he heard the question and looked up to the dalmation. He was shy, but not in the scared way. He put his head down and blushed with a nervous smile.

"Um, it's my birthday. So I came here, to my favorite place.", he said shyly. He was always shy aroun new people.

He didn't know what else to say, he didn't know someone would meet him here. He usually didn't see anybody when he came here. But then again, he didn't come here often. So once he answered he just continued to shyly smile.

"Oh... sorry for interrupting, hehe...", he said, blushing a little. Icarus was shy around people, too, and seeing someone blushing me him blush too. It was weird for him but anyways, he crouched and looked the cub in the eyes. "So, uh...who are you and what you're doing here all alone? Shouldn't you be with you parents in this special day?", he said calmly.

Dusk didn't mind his questions. Even though they brought up sad things. His smile didn't stop, only lessened some.

"I don't have parents, I mean, I don't know them, I've never known them. I live in an alleyway in town, but this really nice bartender named Frank treats me nice", he said. When he mentioned Frank his smile returned to all it's splender.

It didn't seem like the dalmation wanted to hurt him or anything. In fact, his curiousity seemed genuine. He only looked down at his feet because of his shyness, otherwise he would be looking the dalmation in the eye.

Icarus frowned when he heard that he didn't know his parents. 'Argh! I'm such a idiot... sigh, I hope I didn't make him sad', he thought, then tried to smiled again. "Ehrm, heh... Uh, nice! I guess it's okay then...", Icarus was getting confused. 'Hm...maybe I should show him something...a trick perhaps? No, no no. Maybe a small burst of magic...yeah, that sounds good', he thought and aimed a finger at the water. "Look at this", he said and a small light formed around his pointer finger and from it shot a burst of light magic. The burst didn't got in contact with the water, instead it formed some kind of tunnel from where it passed.

Dusk wated as he pointed at the water. Curious as to what he was gonna do. He watched the water and jumped in surprise by the light and smiled.

"Wow, how did you do that? That's amazing", he said.

Dusk had never seen magic before, so it was truly amazing to him. He looked at his hand then at the water but couldn't figure out how he did it. Because he couldn't figure it out, his curiousty was killing him. And he watched the light with a grand smile.

Icarus smiled. 'Hehe, I knew he was going to like it...', he moved his head to the cub. "It's not hard, really. You just need to concentrate alot", he said, moving his hand in front of the dusk. "With magic you can make, control or change everything. For example...", a small ball of light started floating on his hand, "I can control light very well. Though I did not master it like Seraph... you can try to make it too, though I think you're too young...", he said.

'Hmm...creating light would be too tiring for him... but controlling might just make him a little tired'

"Um...try to concentrate your mind onto this bolt. Think about good things, like your birthday, flowers, anything", he said calmly. '...I'm having a flashback...Oh Seraph...'.

Dusk heard the dalmation and held up his hand.

"Um, ok", he said.

He looked at his hand and thought. Thought about his birthday and trying to get light to form. Thinking of, his special place, Frank the bartender and his shelter in the alley way. Alas, nothing happened.

He looked back to the dalmation.

"It's not working", he said with a smile and chuckle.

Icarus looked at the cub's hand. 'I...think I'm forgetting something...', he thought. Icarus tried to remember how Seraph taught him light magic. 'He...held my hand and...ugh, what was it again? Oh yeah, he held my hand and charged power into it lightly...', Icarus touched the back of the cub's hand and charged his hand with magic lightly. "Okay...try it now...", he said.

Dusk felt his hand touch his. It made him blush. He felt something when he touched him. He didn't know it was magic. He didn't know the dalmation was helping him. It was a warm funny feeling that he liked.

Without even trying. Light emerged above his hand. The touch of the dalmation made him feel happy and the light above his hand was the size of an adult fist. It took a few seconds before he realized it.

"Uh...hey, I'm doing it.", he said cheerfully. Looking into the light.

"Woow", he lightly gasped as he stared at it.

Icarus smiled. 'Just like me... haha'

"Uh, don't stop concentrating on it. Now...I'll slowly slip my hand out...", he said. His hand moved backwards a bit, letting the magic charge on the cub's hand. "I guess this is your birthday present, from me! Haha...", he smiled. That charge wouldn't run out easily, so the cub would be able to summon anything, anytime. Icarus waited for the cub to say something.

Dusk watched the light a little more. Then looked to the dalmation, being sure to concentrate.

"Thank you, mister...um..", his ears folded back. He just realized that neiter had introduced them selves.

"Um...I'm Dusk. And today, I'm twelve", he said with a smile. "What's yours?", he asked.

He looked back to the light. Then he let it fade and vanish.

"So...will I be able to do that when ever I want?", he asked. His tail wagging behind him.

Icarus seemed to realize that neither of us introduce ourselves at the same time as Dusk. He smiled, trying to hide is embarassement. "Oh uh... My name's Icarus and nice name!", he said, smiling. As a reply to Dusk's question, he said, "Anytime you want to. Just be sure to focus, or else it will fade, okay?", he said and laughed a bit. Then he tried to stand up to leave, since it was getting late...

Dusk wasn't really listening after he said he could as long as he concentrated. Since Icarus was still crouching beside him he wrapped his arms around his neck before he had the chance to stand up.

"Thank you, Icarus. I really like it", he said softly as he hugged him. He got a funny feeling as he hugged him. He was so caught up with trying to figure out what it was that he forgot to let go. He wasn't hugging him ightly though. Just comfortably. He couldn't remember ever getting a better gift.

Icarus had truly made his twelth birthday something special. He now had the foundations for learning magic. And with him being a quick learner. Will would not get in his way of slowing him down in his learning.
