In Call of Duty (World at War at least), you can only carry a couple of weapons at a time. I think that's pretty realistic in comparison to games like Half-Life 2 where you can carry so much crap at any one time. I like both games, but Call of Duty and its World War II theme is a lot more realistic than Half-Life which is populated by aliens and zombies. _________________ "Anything good in life is either illegal, immoral, or fattening." - Murphy's Law

chuckles "restraining weapons as a tactical addition made popular by the king of unreal Halo nore is it realistic really, you wouldn't be sprinting with two primaries on your back," _________________ Right.... I'm back.... if your not, then how are you reading this? |

No video game is 100% realistic, but then a video game that was 100% realistic most likely wouldn't be any fun. That's when you get into the realm of true simulators, which in reality only appeal to a limited audience. I like true simulators, but a lot of people don't. Companies only make what sells, and I know I wouldn't want to be crawling along in a video game solely because my weapons are heavy in reality. _________________ "Anything good in life is either illegal, immoral, or fattening." - Murphy's Law

Yeah so I take it you haven't played arma 2? That is a combat simulator. To an extent it fustrates me cause I want to cap people easier but still, awesome 250KM squared as an ultra real playground is win. Which brings to the point, has anyone heard of Op Flashpoint 2? I am so looking forwards to that. _________________ Right.... I'm back.... if your not, then how are you reading this? |

I haven't played that game, no, but I don't see what it has to do with the issue at hand. _________________ "Anything good in life is either illegal, immoral, or fattening." - Murphy's Law

Really, in my opinion, it's all in how it's pulled off.
Like for example, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion was realistic and fantastic, put together quite well. The landscapes look absolutely amazing, and the way items are managed [Weight instead of slots] was more akin to real life than your typical RPG. It's skill system based on how often you used a skill was also much more realistic than the traditional approach of learning moves after fighting a lot of monsters. [Note, if RPGs are like this nowadays, I haven't played any RPGs since the Super Nintendo aside from the Last Remnant and Oblivion]
Then there's Saints Row and it's sequal. While the game looks and plays realistically, the game is about as far from realistic as possible. One of the boss fights pits you against a man with a voodoo doll that could literally through you around while you're shooting at him, and there are side missions where a french revolutionist mime steals a septic tank truck and asks you to spray it's contents all over the nearby neighborhoods.
Both games are very fun in my opinion, in my top ten lists of totally friggin awesome, but they're on the opposite sides of the scale from each other. Thus, as long as it's a healthy mix and it's well done, realism and fantasy can both contribute amazingly well.
End rant xD |

I love realism in games, ArmA 2 is probably my most favored game I've ever played. With a few great mods to enhance the NPC's skill and such, it's absolutely amazing. Games without complete, or even partial realism can be fun as well, I just need to find myself playing them with a friend or something.. depends on the game really.. |

For me, it fully depends on the game.
I love FF7 & FF8 for the fantasy, and various other games for the sheer realism they present.
I usually like games that have a higher degree of realism. |
