Some of these biographies are out of date.

Nessus

Species: Rat
Gender: Male
Apparent Age: 20-30
Occupation: None
Affiliation: Kingdom Dysuhl

Appearance
:

Nessus is a grey rat a little less than five feet in height, appearing to be in his late twenties. His eyes are beady, black and restless. Though he used to have quite a spring in his step nowadays he shuffles around, downtrodden and slouching this way or that.

Capabilities:

All dysuhlians are necromancers at heart….but Nessus isn’t really dysuhlian anymore. The magical abilities and powers inherent in all dysuhlians have been stripped away. He remembers how to use his abilities, but he lacks the underlying magical prowess. He knows how to summon the standard dysuhlian conjured blade, for instance, but the necessary, intimate understanding of necromancy with which he was born is no longer available to him.

Background:

Nessus was born over 1500 years ago in Kingdom Dysuhl, one year after Vedicus. He learned the ways of a Dysuhlian Spellsword, absorbed the aristocratic tendencies of the upper crust of Dysuhlian society, and eventually went on to become a successful military commander.

In modern times, Vedicus resurrected Nessus a few years before the current date to serve as his aid and operative. His principle tasks were to track down any remaining magical strongholds, find feilans capable of powering dysuhlian artifacts, and gather strategic information on the current kingdoms. As Nessus served Vedicus he began to question his older brother’s intentions. He thought their goal was to recreate the glory of Kingdom Dysuhl in modern times, but Vedicus seemed more interested in spreading death and disease among the population. When Vedicus ordered Nessus to distribute an illness known as The Shudderframe Personality among the town and cities of Feila- an act which could have just a single morbid purpose- Nessus defied his brother and destroyed the vial containing the deadly virus. After so many years of loyalty in the distance past and present, he finally saw his brother- his half brother- for what he really was. Vedicus, ever cool and calculating, decided to let Nessus share the fate of the “mere mortals” he was defending. He stripped Nessus of his power and immortality, and left him in the wilderness to fend for himself.

Personality:

Nessus was once very regal in stature and mannerisms. Thanks to his abilities, his clothing was always elaborate and expensive in appearance. He spoke clearly and evenly to both noblemen and peasants alike…but that was then, and this is now. Nessus is a broken man, trapped within the fragile shell of a mortal body, fearful of everything. He wants so much to foil his brother, but he can’t see how.

Vedicus

Species: Rat
Gender: Male
Apparent Age: ???
Occupation: Dysuhlian Necromancer
Affiliation: ???

Appearance:

At first glance, Vedicus is an old rat, constantly hunched over a crude wooden walking stick, and always seen wearing a grey, heavily stained sack-cloth robe. His fur is a shade of grey brighter, but just as thoroughly stained. His stature is more reminiscent of a wild rat than a civilized feilan, with his head and upper torso held far forwards over the walking stick, and his tail held far out behind him for balance.

UPDATE:

Vedicus various activities have taken quite a toll on his outward appearance. Over the course of a year he has been slain at least twice- first by the coyotes Ace and Joker and their traveling companions, and much later by Silas and the tavern-goers. Common injuries are merely lost to time and space upon the old rat's resurrection, indeed each new life is a new slate for him, yet each of these groups have left a permanent mark. Joker's makeshift flail was used to great effect, crushing the left side of Vedicus face and skull, tearing away much of the skin and his left ear, and leaving a gaping hole in his head. A deep, gaping wound across his midsection is the mark left by Silas and his scythe.

Capabilities:

Vedicus' skillset is not easily categorized, though it does overlap significantly with Necromancy. He weaves flying filaments of blood into complex patterns both as a weapon and as an instrument for casting powerful spells. With little effort he can duplicate himself, forming hordes of creatures collectively known as “Fetch” which follow his orders without question. The Fetch are living, breathing creatures complete with intelligence , magical capabilities, and all life’s frailties. The Fetch are no more difficult to kill than the average Feilan. Vedicus, on the other hand, can suffer extensive injury without dying, and death itself is little more than an inconvenience. He has been killed many times before, but he always returns to the world through some unnatural means, albeit at a far-removed location.

Background:

When Vedicus entered the world of modern (medieval) Feila he had no reputation beyond being an obscure, bitter old man. However, as time passes, he is being recognized for what he really is: an ambitious, almost megalomaniacal necromancer from a long dead kingdom. His actions speak volumes about his ill intent, but his actual motives remain unknown even to those closest to him- living, dead, or downcast in disgrace.

UPDATE:

After little more than a year of new life, Vedicus has already found resistance in the form of uniquely powerful individuals across Feila; Silas, Telemain, Ace and Joker, among others, who are all bound together by a common... destiny, perhaps? Maybe not, but fate has seen fit to bring them together on more than one occasion.

Telemain was instrumental in the deactivation of a very powerful, very old, very...important ward, and a great help to Vedicus. The old rat is no fool, however; he can plainly see where Telemain's loyalties lie, yet he appears unwilling to cause the Ferret/Fox physical harm.

Silas has made the destruction of necromancy his personal mission in life. During a significant battle leading to Vedicus second known death of the year, Vedicus infected him with a devastating disease, hopeful that it would render him insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Against all odds, the wolf has survived and resisted the more crippling effects of the illness. The old necromancer has yet to determine how this could be.

Ace and Joker gained incredible energy from their bond of brotherhood, however they appear to have vanished off the face of Feila.

Tamas

Species: Rat
Gender: Male
Apparent Age: 60-70
Occupation: Dysuhlian "Diplomat"
Affiliation: ???

Appearance:

Grey rat, old but not quite elderly in appearance, always seen in an elaborate robe embossed with vertically aligned rectangles and other geometric shapes. Tamas face is only ever caring, kind, and soft, as is his tone of voice and the content of his speech. His black rodents' eyes twinkle with kindness. The old rat positively radiates good intentions and an incredible sense of empathy to all nearby, such that those in his presence tend to feel comforted or content even without directly speaking with him. When all is said and done, everything outwardly apparent about the rat is part of an incredibly elaborate deception, convincing to all but the most observant of creatures.

Capabilities:

One could assume he possesses the powerful necromantic abilities most often attributed to his race, but he has yet to demonstrate these. Indeed, he hasn't actually displayed any form of magic at all up to this point. Magic might make some people uncomfortable, after all.

Background:

Tamas appeared only recently, making his way towards the capital of Domus on what he claims to be a diplomatic mission of some kind. He has yet to encounter anyone aware of Vedicus' activity in Gawain. Indeed, the first response from most people upon meeting him is, "Dysuhl? Never heard of it."

Crazzer
(interchangeable pronunciation)

Species: Rat
Gender: Male
Age: ~16
Occupation: none
Affiliation: none

Appearance:

White rat with large brown and black spots on face and shoulders, probably around 19 years of age. Like many rodents, Crazzer's eyes are large and black with only the slightest hint of pink within, and pupils are not visually apparent. He stands about four and a half feet in height and wears an old robe clearly intending for a much larger feilan. Generally one could describe Crazzer's appearance as....just a little scruffy, just a little scrawny, and generally non-threatening.

Capabilities:

Crazzer is just one more uneducated, unemployed street-urchin, and as such he's about as skilled in the art of theft as the next. He does carry a small rusted blade, but he's hardly a ruffian.

Background:

History is one thing Crazzer lacks. His memory is no worse than the average person's, but for his entire life he's amounted to nothing, drifting from town to town, committing the petty crimes typical of those within his... shall we say, income bracket.
