Everything you ever wanted to know about Feilan character creation!

The World of Feila is primarily a medieval furry role-playing forum, though, other eras do exist for role-playing in the Dimensional Break. The races found on the planet of Feila are almost entirely exclusive to anthropomorphic animals, as humans no longer exist in this world, though, humans did exist in the distant, forgotten past. This token of ancient history allows for one human-like racial variation known as "Skin Avian".

The Skin Avian are the only race in Feila with a human-like appearance, in the sense that they look almost exactly like humans except with a few major differences. There are also "Beaked" Aves, otherwise known as Beaked Ones or Beaked Avian, with a standard anthropomorphic appearance. For images and information on the appearance of these two avian forms, click here. For even more information on the two avian races, "Skins" and "Beaked Ones", see Avian Form One: The Skins and Avian Form Two: The Beaked Ones.

All other races are simply standard anthropomorphic animals. We do not have human-like races other than Skin Avian in the world of Feila. A human-like race is a race that appears mostly human, with only some animal features. On the other hand, a standard anthropomorphic animal has only some human features such as posture, while having a lot more animal characteristics. For a pictorial example of a human-like race, see here. For a pictorial example of a standard anthropomorphic animal, see here.

Don't worry -- Character creation is not strict or complicated. We recommend that users go ahead and create characters without worrying about details. You only need minimal knowledge of the world of Feila to play, and NO pre-approval for characters is required. This means that you can start playing as soon as you want.

For those of you who need help creating an OPTIONAL character sheet, feel free to make use of the one below this paragraph. Remember, the following character sheet is only an example, and you do not need to introduce your character in this manner. If you were to post a character sheet, the appropriate board to do this in would be The Entrance Hall. In the case of multiple characters, you can either create a new thread for each of your character sheets, or you can post all of your character sheets in one thread.

If you need additional help in this area or require clarification, feel free to send a private message to RabidFox. You can also post an inquiry thread at The Medieval Information Kiosk, where any of the forum's users can offer you assistance. The Medieval Information Kiosk is especially useful if none of the staff are currently logged into the forum, and you need an answer as soon as possible. Don't worry, though. The staff usually logs in frequently on an everyday basis.

I have little to no Role-Playing experience; how do I start?

First, it would be ideal to put some thought into a character sheet. Laying out a character sheet is essentially creating a character for role-playing. For example, the following is a finished character sheet...

Name: Bob
Age: 20
Race: Feline/Bengal Tiger
Gender: Male

Appearance: Bob is above average height, standing at an impressive six-foot-five. However, he is not very stocky for a tiger, so he is mostly just skin and fur on a rack of bones, with muscle that is only adequate for lifting heavy crates. The cat wears simple garb crafted out of leather, and moccasins on his feet. His fur is a dull orange, with black-gray stripes, and an off-white mouth. Bob's irises are a polluted green, and his pupils are round.

History: Bob is pretty much your average Joe. He was born in the port city of Teimus, Edwin, where he walked in his father's pawprints to become a modest dock loader for incoming and outgoing sea vessels. The only thing that is really peculiar about him is his attire, which is uncharacteristic for his region. Bob bought his first pair of nomadic clothes from a wandering peddler, and wore them until he could wear them no more, in which he had his mother craft him new ones in the same style. For this, it is obvious that Bob has a unique preference towards the nomadic tribal folk, though, he has little actual desire to be one. His liking of nomadic animals is merely based on a personal fantasy of sorts.

Likes: Cheese
Dislikes: Butter (Strangely enough)

Religious Inclinations: Bob is a strong believer in Midas, though, lacks the prejudices typical of many followers of his faith.

The above character sheet is just an example. You do not have to use those exact fields if you decide to create a character sheet, nor are you required to create a character sheet at all. However, having a character sheet handy makes for easier role-playing. If you were to create a character sheet, then you would post it as a new thread in The Entrance Hall, preferably with your character's name as the subject.

Once you have a character in mind, you can enter any of the public role-plays (Private role-plays are clearly labeled as such in the subject and you would readily know one if you saw one). Role-playing itself is like participating in an interactive story of sorts. You and others will post dialogue and actions for your respective characters, and these posts will tie into one collective story, otherwise known as a role-play or RP.

Can I create a time traveling or world hopping character?

We used to allow the creation of time traveling and world hopping characters, but we do NOT permit these kinds of characters anymore. The reason for this is because allowing time travelers and world hoppers opens the door for non-furry characters to be played. It also causes confusion for other users, and when lots of time travelers and world hoppers are in play, the field for role-playing becomes unreasonably unrealistic. For example, there have been several unrelated time travelers and/or world hoppers participating in one thread at a time.

If you are confused as to what a world hopper is, it is someone who travels between at least two different worlds. In other words, a person who has somehow transported themselves from one world to another.

Are mythological/fantasy animals allowed to be used as characters?

Absolutely. Dragons are already an integral part of Feila, though they’re different than what a lot of people might think of when they hear the word “dragon”. More information on them can be found here.

Other mythological creatures like griffins can be achieved through hybridization of two species, or simply saying: “…and he was a griffin/phoenix/kitsune/etc.” We’re pretty relaxed about that sort of thing around here, though be mindful that such ‘odd-looking’ characters as mythical beings may face In Character prejudice from less open-minded characters.

What’s with all the colored usernames?

Some usernames are colored, and while a few colors are reserved for special positions, most colors don't mean anything extraordinary at all and are merely the result of a user's preference to have their name appear as a certain color. If you would like to have your username another color than the default, see this thread for more details.

Orange = Administrator
Green = Moderator
Red = APP Member

All other colors entitle no special position. It should be noted that some users who hold special positions choose not to use an appropriate color to signify a position that they may hold, and may use a completely unrelated color. However, no user that does not hold the appropriate position will ever be able to use the related color for that position.

How do I prevent/work around website blocks?

First off, make sure to clear your browsing history each time you sign off from a school/work computer. This way, those sneaky teachers/employers can't block all of your favorite sites, because they won't know what sites that you're visiting. Of course, if others are visiting the same sites, then you should spread the word to keep the history clear. See this page for detailed instructions on how to clear your browsing history using different browsers and computers.

Of course, sometimes knowledge comes too late or technicians have rigged the computers to prevent tampering with certain controls. In this case, you may find liberty by using one of the many proxy sites offered on the web. Click here to view a list of available proxy sites, or type "proxy site" into a search engine to find more. These sites fool the computer into thinking that the site that's being viewed is actually stemming from the proxy site's domain instead, and can be used to work around website blocks.

An extensive article including other methods of working around website blocks can be read here.

How do I use the Chatroom?

Click Chatrooms, accessible from the main menu. You will be taken to a log-in page. You must first register a username for use with the chatroom. Please make this username the same or as close as possible to your username for the World of Feila forum. It is not mandatory that you choose your username in this manner, so if for some reason you cannot or choose not to, don’t worry about it. We ask this simply so that you will be easily recognizable by other members of the World of Feila.

Once you have registered a username for use with the chatroom, type in your selected username and password into the appropriate fields on the chatroom log-in page. You will be asked to choose your desired language for the chatroom layout (This will NOT translate user text to the chosen language). Then click the “Login” button. You will be automatically taken to the General Chat for the Twilightus domain. To reach the chatroom for the World of Feila forum, click the bar for “Room”, and select “Feila”. You will then be in the World of Feila chatroom. To log out of the chatroom, click the red button in the top-right corner of the chatroom page.

For IRC users, the Twilightus Community, which includes Feila, has an IRC channel at:
irc://irc.rizon.net/twilightus

If you do not have an IRC client, you can get the FireFox add-on ChatZilla or use mIRC.

I’m having Registration or Logging (Sign-in) difficulties; what can I do?

Registration Difficulties

Why Is My E-Mail Address Not Accepted?

Due to the multitude of spam bots, I have blocked many domains for e-mail addresses, however, most of these e-mail bans are restricted only to the spammers' personal domains. There have been a few major e-mail domains blocked, such as "@mail.ru". In the case that your e-mail domain is blocked, I would suggest using one of the following domains...

@aol.com - Sing Up For This Domain
@yahoo.com - Sign Up For This Domain
@gmail.com - Sign Up For This Domain
@hotmail.com - Sign Up For This Domain

Logging Problems

Sometimes logging difficulties can occur with certain browsers. If you are having any difficulties signing onto the forum, you should try changing your default browser. A couple of recommended browsers are Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. If you are not sure how to change your default browser, you can find help on the subject here.

Download FireFox - Highest Recommendation
Download Internet Explorer - Acceptable

How do I display an avatar?

The World of Feila does not allow users to directly upload their avatars to the board's server due to space issues. You must upload your avatar to another server, such as http://imageshack.us or http://photobucket.com, in order to view your avatar on Feila. Once you have uploaded your avatar to a server, copy the url of the image and paste it into the "Link to off-site avatar" field that can be found when editing your profile, then click submit and your avatar should be displayed. If you need any additional help with this process, send a private message to RabidFox.

What are the most common animal families in The World of Feila and what are some of the species of those families?

You will notice that there is a lot of reference to animal families used in this RPG. An animal family is a "category" that certain animal species belong to, such as cats belonging to the Feline family and dogs belonging to the Canine family. Since Feila has a wide variety of both common and unusual animals, you will often see the names of animal families that you have never heard before. For example, I bet you have no idea what a Mustilidae is unless you are either: A. A zoologist, or B. An avid fan of weasels. Mustilidae is the family name for the Weasel Family, which includes ferrets, ermines, badgers, skunks, wolverines, and otters.

Avian: The Bird Family - Ravens, crows, blue jays, cockatoos, parrots, hawks, eagles, etc.

Canine: The Dog Family - Domestic dogs, wolves, foxes, jackals, coyotes, etc.

Equine: The Horse Family - Horses, mules, donkeys, zebra, etc.

Feline: The Cat Family - Domestic cats, lions, tigers, cougars, lynx, cheetah, leopards, etc.

Fish: The Fish Family - Bass, bluegill, catfish, sharks, etc.

Lagomorph: The Rabbit Family - Rabbits, hares, pikas, etc.

Mustilidae: The Weasel Family - Weasels, stoats, ferrets, polecats, ermine, badgers, skunks, otters, wolverines, etc.

Procyonidae: The Raccoon Family - Raccoons, cacomistles, etc.

Reptile: The Lizard Family - Geckos, newts, iguanas, komodo dragons, snakes, etc.

Rodent: The Mouse Family - Mice, rats, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, etc.

Ursidae: The Bear Family - Black bears, pandas, etc.

What’s this I’ve heard about different timeframes?

Feila is set in a medieval-esque time period by default. However, there is a role-playing board known as The Dimensional Break for role-playing in non-medieval time periods. Currently, there are four other time periods that can be role-played via the Dimensional Break, and these time periods are explained in further detail in the Dimensional Break forum. Role-playing in other time periods is very simple and requires little reading to understand. Everything that you could possibly want to know about role-playing in other time periods is explained in the announcements and stickies of the Dimensional Break forum and its sub-forums.

What Do Skin/Beaked Avians look like?

"Skin" Avian or "Skins" are the only race in Feila with an appearance that almost echoes humanity to the T, in that they have human-appearing bodies, except with feathered wings and a tail, claws, and pointed ears. Skinned Avian often have natural markings on their bodies of differing colors, shapes, sizes, and placements. They have hair on their heads just like humans do, except that their hair is often so stiff and short that it spikes upwards. However, it can be very soft and straight too, especially in females. Skin Avian feathers and hair can be a wide variety of colors and patterns just like their more primitive and fully feathered beast cousins AKA the non-anthropomorphic, everyday bird.

There are also "Beaked" Avian or "Beaked Ones", of who are standard anthropomorphic animals. Beaked Ones are fully feathered with a beak, typically have wings and a tail, and usually have talons, though, sometimes paws for feet. Their physical structure and overall appearance can vary greatly from one bird to the next, and some have wingless arms or hand-like appendages at the end of their wings. A Beaked Avian may have no wings at all. As a race, Beaked Ones are completely open to interpretation.

As a race, Skin Avian have a special, genetic resistance to showing signs of aging, such as the general decadence of the outer body. However, there is still some noticeable pigment loss over the years, such as in the hair and feathers. The skin may also become paler. Most Beaked Avian do not show this same trait, though, a rare few do. The reasons for this inherent resistance to aging is unknown.
