Richard Hathaway
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Race: Cat
Height: 6'
Weight: 150 lb.
Eye Color: Green
Fur Color: Brown w/ Black stripes

Physical Appearance: Tall and thin for a cat, but strongly built due to his profession. Most would consider him rather handsome, although he doesn't really realize how to exploit this strength of his yet. Has a slice out of his left ear.

Personality: Peppy, energetic, sometimes very silly. Exceedingly curious.Fairly intelligent, but often likes not to give that impression. The easiest thing in the world to convince, bribe, or sway, simply at the promise of "something." He has to find out what that something is. Mostly likely ADD or even ADHD. Has a lazy streak a quarter-league wide. His humor is sometimes simply too strange for others to understand.

Biography: (From the stan'point of 'is granmother.) His father was a military man, you see, and he died when Richard was only very young. 'Is poor mum came to live with me - I lived with Richard's uncle Bart, so poor Susan shared the house, too. 'Course, little Richard never knew 'is dad and just adopted Bart as 'is pa. He grew up happy enough, learnin' his letters and figgurs and all that stuff kids learn nowadays. 'E was always out and about, thuogh, shirkin' work, bless 'is 'eart, and lookin' for all sorts of things - feathers, stones, anything! 'E was always so gifted curious, that 'e was.

And then, after 'e comed of age, 'is uncle Bart wanted to send 'im into the military, just like Bart 'ad done when 'e was Richard's age. Said it made a man a man.

Well, Richard wanted nothin' to do with the whole scheme. Said 'e wanted to explore an' be a sailor or something outlandish like that. Bart 'ad none of that.

Poor child, 'e was so torn up then - it was the first dis'greement 'ed 'ad with 'is uncle. The 'ole thing died down after a day or so, though, and we all thought it was over when Bart says it again, tellin' Rich to get off 'is land one way or the other - 'cept 'e wasn't welcome back without a proper officer's hat.

So Richard just upped an' left, that simple, no fuss. We didn't ever see if again, poor soul.

Wonder what ever became o' that lad. Probably died an 'ero of some cal'vry brigade in some far-off war with Maze, dead with cannons to 'is left and cannons to 'is right, all heroic like. That'd be my grandson. A proper 'ero, I sure 'e turned out to be.

[cut to tavern, grown up Rich sitting at the table]
"And then I says, well, missy, I'd certainly wish to have a fine time with ye, but it's got to be tomorrow night, then." (takes a gulp of his ale) "And then she asked why, getting all angry at me." (points around the table for dramatic effect) "So I says, 'cause I've got your sister already!'"

(uproarious laughter)

Random weasel: "So, you'd get both of 'em, Rich?"

(takes a swig of his ale) "Naw, weren't worth my time. Both slapped me and wen' off with some officer or somefing. They always get the girls from me." (sighs) "Never wanted to be an officer, I did, me folks wished me to be, but I said, 'no, I want to be a sailor,' I said."

(takes another swig) "But, of course, I didn't know nothing about no women then!"

(more uproarious laughter)

This is a rather poor representation of anything but his story and his character while inebriated. He is much less raunchy when sober.

His actual demeanor is rather more innocent at most times, and the alcohol brings his coarser side to the surface.

(I just liked the contrast so much I had to go with it.)

He now works in Edwin for the most part, carrying messages and dispatches as fast as possible. He works for the military very very often, and as such often ventures into Gawainian territory or perhaps even carriesw the messages across the sea to forts and outposts.

He's known and trusted by several officers in battalions across Edwin, though they also realize he's not the hardest fellow to bribe or distract.

Education: Can read and write.
Vocation: Messenger for hire
Location: "Wherever the job pushes mah bloody feet."

Hobbies/Interests: Anything.

Wears: Mostly has clothes you'd see a militiaman wearing - provinical but paramilitary in appearance, not altogether shabby. He also fancies a rather aged tricornered hat he picked up after a certain highway man dropped while he was hauled away by some soldiers. Wears an assortment of jewelry he's found many places.

Other Equipment: His messenger's bag, a pistol, a powderhorn, a small cartridge case, his canteen. Various odds and ends he's picked up - jewelry, baubles, multiple turkey or pigeon or jay feathers in the hat. (Once called a land pirate in jesting due to his hodgepodge "gypsie" look.)
Weapons: Pistol with little skill. Wields a sword like a loaf of bread, as he more often than not ends up eating blade while attempting to duel. Adept with his fists.

Magic: None.

Drinking: Aye.
Smoking: Aye.
Swearing: Aye.
Religion: Aye.

Will Probably: Well, that'd be tellin', wouldn't it?
Will Probably Not: That'd be too.
