"STOP! THIEF!"
Padric Wildthorne barreled down the street at a full sprint, dodging over, under, and around people and carts, trying to put some distance between the pair of town guards who had spotted him mid theft. They were doing a good job giving pursuit though; managing to stay fairly close despite Padric's wildly erratic course through the city streets.

In a bid to lose the guards, he dove into a narrow alleyway, tearing down it until he came to an intersection. Choosing his path at random he managed to worm his way into the maze like thicket of buildings that made up this part of Rennes, diving down stairs, scrambling up over walls, and just generally following as complicated a path as he could in his bid to escape.

After a little bit he slowed down, fairly sure he had lost the guardsmen. Looking around he realized that he had no real idea where he was. somehow he had ended up indoors, in what looked like a rather large curving hallway. It was dimly lit, only a few torches here and there, and all around there was this faint roaring noise.

"HEY YOU!" Not even looking to see who it was, Padric ran a litte further before diving through the nearest door he could find, and slamming it shut behind himself. The roaring noise was much, much louder on this side of the door. The ground felt different too, almost like sand...

Blood running cold he turned around, taking in his surroundings almost reluctantly. A wide circular area maybe sixty feet across, with a sand covered floor and a high wall running the whole way around, with doors here and there. Beyond the wall were what looked like hundreds of furs, in amphitheater style seats most of them yellling and cheering excitedly.

He looked down at the baguette that he had stolen, wondering if it was really worth this kind of trouble...

On the other side of the ring a door opened and a female panther stepped into the ring. The crowd cheered louder then before. She wore a tight leather outfit with a collar that had a broken chian. She walked foward and the crowd called out "Veruka Veruka Veruka!" over and over again. She raised both paws and the crowd calmed down. "Is this my next challenger? What is your name?" she said the walls of the ring projected the sound making it much louder then spoken. Her tail twitched back and foruth.

That panther looked like she meant business. Uneasily Padric took a step back, bumping into the now firmly locked and secured door behind him. How the hell had he ended up in the combat arena?

"Um... Padric?" He replied nervously, looking for a means of escape. The walls were too smooth to climb, and he doubted this lady was going to let him just get away like that. "Um, I'm not really supposed to be here..."

She smirked and tilted her head. "Not sopposed to be here eh?" She opened her paws two blades slid out of her arms. She brought the unsharpened end up to his cheek and turned his head. "You don't look like a fighter." she said. "But theres a way to tell if you are or not." She turned him around and ran her hand over the back of his head. "Hmm...Intersting." She pushed him over to the side, she banged on the door. "Gemini, open the door." she shouted.

Padric nearly passed out when she brought a blade up to his face, expecting it all to end at any second. Then she felt the back of his head for some reason before knocking on the door behind him.

"Thank you." He said quietly with a sigh of relief, as she called out to someone on the other side of the door. There was no response for a few moments, then someone replied,
"Just finish him, that audience came here to see some blood." Padric shot the panther a terrified look before scrambling away from her; in the blink of an eye he was halfway across the arena, trying to come up with an escape plan. All he had on him was his knife and he doubted he'd last very long against her.

(OOC: did those blades slide out of her arms or her sleeves?)

She growled at the voice "Adale, Get Gemini, NOW. I will not kill a non-fighter." She waited a few minutes the door clicked open and a purple and gray spotted goat stood there. She had on a lemon yellow dress on. "Yes Veruka?" she asked. Veruka turned and bekoned for Padric to come over. "Hes not a fighter. Gemini treat him to a meal and bring my next fight" Veruka said.

Padric wasn't entirely sure why the door opened in front of him, but he wasn't about to argue. Almost as soon as he was through the door though, he was firmly grabbed by someone.
A short while later he found himself in what looked like a cell of some sort. He had been given a bit of food, and now he was in here, unsure what to do. The door was locked, trapping him here, but the furnishings were rather nice. He couldn't really tell if he was a prisoner or a guest.

Gemini walked by the cell. "Padric? Is that what your name was?" She looked back and foruth down the hall. She bleated quietly "Im Gemini, Im going to help you escape. Then Im getting Veruka out and we're coming with you." She pulled out a key from her pocket and clicked open the cell. " Come quickly. Im getting you out of here." she bleated quickly.

"I... what now?" Padric replied, totally lost. "I'm afraid you lost me. You're telling me you're slaves?" That couldn't be right; slave fighting had been outlawed years ago. The only people allowed to fight in the arenas nowadays were there of their own accord. Where exactly was he?

"Gemini! Where are you going with that slave? " Someone called from down the hall. Padric turned to see a rather large bear coming towards them, torch in one hand and a sword at his hip. He didn't look too happy.

Gemini turned around. Adale was approaching. "I was ordered by Tao to bring Padric to his office." Adale didnt look like he believed her. "Really I just came fr--" he stoped midsentence due too a sword his esophugus. He gasped for air and fell to the ground. Veruka stood behind him. "I wish you werent in the way Adale." she puts her swords in there holsters around her waist. Gemini smiled "Veruka, your a sight for sore eyes" she bleated. "Yeah you too Gemini" Veruka said and stepped over Adales body.

Padric looked at the dead bear on the ground, shocked by the sudden death. He may have been a thief and cat-burglar, but he tried to avoid injuring people, and he had certainly never killed a person. Most people he had stolen from didn't even know he had been there.

"Would somebody please explain to me what is going on here?" He said aloud. "Seriously, I'm not even sure how I got here. Or even where here is." Somehow within the course of a couple of hours his day had gone from relatively mundane to unusual and confusing.

Gemini bleated "This is the Elderberry Arena. A slave fighting arena." Veruka shivered at the sound of "slave". Gemini continued "This arena has been going strong for ten years. And sadly capturing people off the streets for eight years. They got me and Veruka two years ago" Gemini stopped short and looked back and fourth. "We best get moving." she said and grabbed Padrics hand and led him down the hall toward the main hall. Veruka followed behind them silently. "Do you know how to fight?" Veruka asked.

Padric was a litttle surprised. He had heard rumors of an illegal arena hidden somewhere in the city; but they were rather insubstantial at best, little more than hints and whisperings here and there. And now here he was apparently helping slaves to escape.

"I can defend myself a little bit, but I'm not exactly a warrior." Padric replied as he was dragged along. "Fighting people attracts a little too much attention in my line of work." Although, at this point he already had a little more attention than he wanted.

"Have any weapons?" Veruka asked then shook her head "Nevermind that question, you have a dagger." Gemini stopped when they got to the corridor to the main hall. She paused at the door that opened into the hall. She jiggled the handle, it was locked. She sighed and bleated "Making it hard eh?" She dropped Padrics hand and held them to her eyes. They glowed for a moment then she dropped her hands. "What do you see Gemini?" Veruka asked. "Five armed guards at the entrance." she bleated.

"I've got an idea." Padric said, pulling a small pin like object from a pocket. Bending down in front of the door, he began picking the lock, taking care to be as silent as possible. After a few moments he muttered "Got it."

Opening the door a crack, he whispered "I'll distract them: you two make a run for it." before suddenly darting out into the room, dagger drawn. Running up to the leader, he smacked the guard in the back of the head. The hilt of the dagger sent a resounding "Clonk" throughout the room. Immediately he had the focus of every guard in the room; swords were drawn, and angry growls resounded throughout the room.
"Why did I just do that?" Padric muttered to himself as he smiled broadly to the guards, who attacked him without hesitation. Dodging the first few attacks with surprising agility he broke into a sprint, running down a side hall.
