I think it's the frequency of the queries that concerns Google. Websites keep track of how long it takes for users to query their pages, and how frequently users are requesting queries. So if you are making a lot of queries in a short time frame, you are going to appear as if you're an automated bot, such as a piece of spyware or a virus. These types of programs send queries one after another at high frequencies, and can be very damaging to the website and people who use the website. For these reasons, some websites choose to ban an IP address if they are receiving queries from that IP address that resembles the activities of malicious software.

The bans that Google have placed so far have only been temporary. I'm not sure, but unless we are actually hurting Google, I think they will always lift a ban of this type after a short time has passed. An easy way to avoid this kind of temporary ban is to simply make queries at a lower and more normal-appearing frequency. In other words, don't click a million pages in the brief timespan of a minute. Allow a little time to pass between each query, that is requesting a page from a server or to be completely down to earth "Loading a webpage in your browser".

*GASP* Made it! I wasn't aware of the situation until just now, but I'm here to help. BTW, Todd, if you're interested, all my character profiles were saved over in Wikifeila, even though I didn't think something like this might happen. 'Sentience' and 'Dual-natured Romance' are the two RPs I'm involved in that look as if they haven't been recovered yet.

Thankfully, I only type at about 40 WPM, so I shouldn't have any problems w/ Google. XD

If they're on WikiFeila, it would be easier if you got them and re-posted them on your own. Otherwise, they will end up being posted on these forums twice.

Speaking of WikiFeila, I've come up with a great idea to solve our character problem. That is the problem of not being able to post individual articles for characters on WikiFeila, because of name clashing.

If anyone wants to back-up the full biographies of their characters on WikiFeila, do the following...

Create a user account at WikiFeila. Then create a user article for yourself. On your user article, write as much information as you want about yourself, a list of your characters, and some short descriptions for each of the characters. Copy and paste the full biographies of each character to their own individual articles by creating a new article and titling it: CHARACTER NAME GOES HERE (FEILA USERNAME GOES HERE). Link each of your characters on your user article to their new individual and complete articles. It's that simple. You're done.

For a brief and easy-to-understand tutorial on using the simple editing interface of WikiFeila, see here. It's really very easy to edit a wiki, and not hard at all. Don't let a little bit of learning scare you off. You will only need to know a few codes, and the interface will quickly and easily implement them for you. So in reality it's just pushing buttons, and copying and pasting text. No hurdles at all. Even a small child could do it.

The interface is even simpler to use if you're logged in. Don't ask me why they've suddenly made it a little less straightforward for guests.

If anyone could help me recover Madame and Zeru's characters, that would be great. Madame has been gone a long time, but I've learned that this "on again, off again" behavior is normal for her with the internet in general (She's told me that she's very busy with college and work), so I'd like to get all of her characters backed up for if and when she returns. Zeru might come back, someday, I dunno. She usually pops in every once in a while, but I still talk to her on FurAffinity and DA occasionally.

I think all of Madame's characters are in one thread, or most of them anyway.

site:twilightus.net "world of feila" "Madame's Characters"

I got all of Madame's characters except for the ones that are on page 2 of her character thread.

Zeru's character names by era...

Medieval

Araewindel
Donmei Bo Pa Xueman
Kinapak Astrila
Renten Valdoe
Shi and Fenfang
Tik-Tik
Queen Vittoria and her Court

Modern

Louis Isaak Briand, III

I managed to find some of Zeru's characters. I found Araewindel, Kinapak Astrila, Renten Valdoe, Shi and Fenfang and Louis Isaak Briand, III.

I couldn't find:
Donmei Bo P Xueman
Tik-Tik
Quen Vittoria and her court

Oh and I also found the first page to the Talini campaign that JamesG and Logan were doing, unfortunately i couldn't find the second one.
Um how do you want me to submit the characters that I found? pm them to you?

Characters should be posted in the Back-up files forum -- Remember to title the threads with the name(s) of the character(s), and who owns them. Role-plays should be sent via an attachment to my e-mail address at R4bidF0X@aol.com.

Thanks for your hard work! It is much appreciated.

I have the other two pages, by which I mean 3 and 5, Rackenhammer. I'll send them to Rabidfox.

There were nine pages, but I couldn't find the last one.

Thank you so much, Sade. Flickerfinger and Larcen will appreciate it, if they can find this site.

I sent him a message on YIM, so he should know about this place the next time he logs onto YIM, which isn't often.

But the original address redirects to this temporary forum, so it's only a matter of time before everyone re-registers. A lot of people are probably disheartened at the outset, so it might take some time for everyone to "come back down to earth", if you know what I mean. Not everyone has an easy time starting over.
